04.06.2024

Evolution has taken legal action against Light & Wonder (L&W), alleging that L&W used confidential information to create games that mimic Evolution’s popular Lightning Roulette.

The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the District of Nevada, with Evolution claiming that its trade secrets were misappropriated by L&W.

Background of the Dispute

The conflict stems from negotiations in 2021 when Evolution discussed developing a land-based version of Lightning Roulette with Scientific Games, which later became LNW Gaming.

During these talks, Evolution shared proprietary mathematical data essential to Lightning Roulette. However, Evolution alleges that instead of collaborating as intended, L&W used this information to develop its own games, such as Roulette X and PowerX.

Evolution asserts that the mathematical files shared were unique and could not be derived by simply observing or playing Lightning Roulette. The company accuses L&W of exploiting these trade secrets to create similar products, thereby damaging Evolution’s business.

Legal Demands

In its legal filing, Evolution is seeking compensation for damages resulting from the alleged misappropriation of its trade secrets. Additionally, the company is asking for an injunction to prevent L&W from further using its confidential information.

Lightning Roulette has been a standout product for Evolution since its release in 2018, gaining widespread popularity for its innovative gameplay. and the game’s success has made it a significant asset for Evolution.
