PrizePicks Reintroduces Peer-to-Peer Fantasy Sports in Florida
PrizePicks has officially reentered Florida’s daily fantasy sports (DFS) scene with the launch of PrizePicks Arena, a peer-to-peer fantasy platform.
The new offering follows its initial debut earlier this year in several other states, including Alabama, Wyoming, West Virginia, and Tennessee. PrizePicks Arena enables users in Florida to engage in competitive fantasy sports, participating in guaranteed prize pools segmented by various factors such as buy-in amount and player experience.
Facing Regulatory Challenges
The reentry into the Florida market comes after previous challenges with the state’s gaming authorities. Earlier in the year, the Florida Gaming Control Commission had directed PrizePicks, along with other operators like Underdog and Betr, to cease their paid pick’em style contests.
While PrizePicks had to halt these offerings, major players such as DraftKings and FanDuel continued their operations uninterrupted. Despite these hurdles, PrizePicks is now making a comeback, aiming to carve out a niche with its peer-to-peer products.
Expanding the Offering
The launch of PrizePicks Arena in Florida introduces a range of sports markets for participants, including popular leagues such as the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, as well as WNBA, esports, and soccer.
Simultaneously, Underdog, another DFS and sports betting operator, has also launched its peer-to-peer platform named Champions in Florida. With PrizePicks and Underdog both reestablishing their presence, the competitive landscape in the state’s fantasy sports sector is poised for intensification.
