Hard Rock Bet turned a tech blunder into a win for players this week, confirming it will let 353 New Jersey players keep $5,000 each, totaling $1.765 million, after a glitch in its Live Trivia game misfired.

A Costly Mistake

The weekly game, exclusive to Hard Rock Bet’s New Jersey platform, usually splits a $5,000 prize pool among players who answer at least seven of ten questions correctly, netting them a few bucks each.

This time, a software hiccup credited every qualifying player with the full $5,000, and the company decided to roll with it.

Matt Primeaux, Hard Rock Bet’s President and Executive Managing Director, didn’t hesitate. “When we spotted the error, our response was quick and deliberate: the awards stand,” he said.

“While others might’ve clawed back the money, we want to put our customers first, not just when it’s easy.” The decision, tied to the platform’s “simple, fair, and transparent” ethos, has players like Brandy Lee Brown-Weikel singing praises. “Most companies wouldn’t do this,” she told NJ.com. “It shows a ton of integrity.”

The Glitch and the Game

The mix-up happened during a Wednesday night Live Trivia session themed around Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City’s seventh anniversary, featuring true/false questions.

Around 500 players joined, per Brown-Weikel’s estimate, with 353 qualifying for the payout. Instead of splitting the $5,000 pool, each got a full $5,000 deposited, a $1.765 million oops.

Launched in April 2025 with Playtech, Live Trivia blends live hosts with quiz-style gameplay, making it a hit among New Jersey’s online casino crowd.
